Ganthers Place

 

 

Ganthers Place was officially established in 2003. We hit the ground running and haven't stopped since! Our mission was simple, to clean up our streets (both literally and figuratively) to allow residents to enjoy a safe neighborhood. Together, we've sucessfully done this and so much more.

 

Over the years apathy has been replaced with momentum. We have a top notch Block Watch that has made the news multiple times, so law breakers beware!

 

Through regular litter pick up and diligently reporting code violations, conditions within our boundaries continue to improve.

 

The Ganthers Place Park for All People, dedicated in 2008, is now a beautiful gathering place for residents, their pets, their friends and family.

 

The Green ‘N Things Park, dedicated in 2011, is now a functional gathering space where residents can work, grow, and nourish both the gardens and themselves. Residents in Ganthers Place have access to tomatoes, radishes, squash, strawberries, onions, lettuce, and many other vegetables. Residents are not only receiving vegetables, but they are learning how to grow and maintain their section of the garden. Residents bring their friends and family to our parks for festivals, food, relaxation, and education. Our vibrant parks bring new residents, visitors, business partners, and other neighborhoods to Ganthers Place.

 

Our twelve annual events provide regular opportunities for fellowship. Annual community events such as our Egg Hunt, Earth Day, Jazz and Art Festival, Garden Tour, National Night Out, Beggars Night, Trunk or Treat, Toy Giveaway, and Lighting of the Luminaries have served the sustainability of resident engagement. Resident engagement battles complacency and cultivates the foundation of a safe and happy community. From complimentary salads from the garden to live music from our stage to the approximately 80 families per year who are provided with gifts under their tree during our holiday events, you will always leave our events with full hands and a full heart. We look back at pictures from our humble beginnings, and can't help but swell with pride over all that we've accomplished.

 

We are a community. We are proud. We are Ganthers Place. Near future plans include:

*Completion of our mural on the corner of Reinhard Avenue by artist Joshua Mullins.

*Trees planted on remaining streets as funds and donations are made available.

*Continued collaboration with other South Side neighborhoods.
