Neighbors Chase Suspected Thieves From South Side Community
Posted: Sep 30, 2013 5:02 PM EDT By: Marcus Thorpe - email COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Community members in a south Columbus neighborhood are taking big steps to help police officers and push crime out of their neighborhood.Ganthers Place is just four city blocks wide, but community members say they have plenty of work to do, and more people willing to do it."The cohesiveness and camaraderie we have are stronger and we get more accomplished," said Tara Mullins. That togetherness has shown through twice in just a week. On Thursday, a neighbor spotted a man trying to force entry into an abandoned house in the area."We made it loud and known, had several people come out and chase the perpetrator to the gas station," Mullins said.
On Sunday night, another neighbor spotted people carrying out items thought to have been stolen from various homes in the neighborhood. The suspects were taking the items out from inside of the same abandoned home."They ran out of the house and we scoped it and he was in a lady's yard next door, wouldn't recommend it but they were in for a surprise," Allen Carrel said. Another neighbor followed the suspect, called police and it led them to the suspect's home across town. "Stay out of this neighborhood if you come to this neighborhood, you're going to get caught," Chad Miller said.
